
CPE Certificates
(Continuing Professional Education)
NYSICA offers monthly training sessions and annual events on internal control and risk management. To earn CPE certificates for attending, participants must meet the eligibility criteria listed, as per New York State Education Department (NYSED) rules and regulations.
- Attendee must be a NYSICA member in good standing
- Attendee must have registered for the event in advance, and
- Attendees must meet minimum event attendance time frames, as established by SED

NYSICA shall adhere to the following parameters in the determination of total CPE credits available for each event, in full compliance with NYSED Office of the Professions Regulations of the Commissioner Part 70.9 Continuing Education, which states:
One continuing education credit shall equal one contact hour. Contact hours shall be measured by program length, with a minimum of 50 minutes equaling one contact hour. Contact hours in one-half hour increments, equal to 25 minutes, shall be permitted after the first continuing education credit has been earned in a given program.
Procedural Guidance- Identify event start time and end time and the length of any break times
- Subtract start time from end time to calculate the total event time (in minutes)
- Subtract any break time from total event time to determine the total training time
- Divide the total training time by 50 (representing the 50-min credit hour) to determine total CPE credit available (round down to the nearest 0.5 CPE, do not round up)
- Start time: 1:15pm | End time: 3:00pm | no breaks
- Total event time: 105 minutes
- Total training time: 105 minutes
- Total CPE credit available: 105 / 50 = 2.1 (round down to 2 CPE)
Annual Full Day Event
- Start time: 8:30am | End time: 4:30pm | breaks: 90 min (60 min lunch, 2 x 15 min breaks)
- Total event time: 480 minutes
- Total training time: 390 minutes
- Total CPE credit available: 390 / 50 = 7.8 (round down to 7.5 CPE)
